CMP approved the Cooperation Agreement with Universidade de Aveiro

On February 6th, Palmela’s Town Hall unanimously approved the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with Universidade de Aveiro within Palmela’s application to join the UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, “Palmela Cidade da Música ".

As a support for this application, it is important to carry out a study directed to the musical practice that defines the relational space in the county’s associative and public contexts. The study will be based on two main objectives: gathering and making historical documentation on musical practice accessible, and observing, documenting and studying the current protagonists, contexts and musical practices.

Thus, the scientific research associated with practice, carried out by Universidade de Aveiro / Instituto de Etnomusicologia Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança (INET-md) (Institute of Ethnomusicology, Center for the Study of Music and Dance), assumes great relevance for the work involving our application that is being developed in Palmela.

In order to carry out this work, it is essential to foster collaboration with local agents and institutions, such as archives, municipal libraries, and the holders of private collections, who preserve primary and secondary documentation on this subject, as well as to create a research grant (involving bibliographical and archival research, in addition to interviews,  as part of field research). The scientific research of this project - which will include a study involving the inventory and investigation of music in the county - is coordinated by INET-md researchers Maria do Rosário Pestana, PhD, and Helena Marinho, PhD, and the consultancy of Susana Sardo, Phd.
