Museu da Música Mecânica will be a Property of Municipal Interest Museu da Música Mecânica will be classified as a Property of Municipal Interest. The opening of the classification procedure was approved unanimously at the 16th October public meeting.
Owned by Luís Cangueiro, the Museum, located in Arraiados, Pinhal Novo, was opened in October 2016 and is part of a unique international collection of musical instruments. Since then, a continuous work has been developed according to an agenda marked by musical and exhibiting quality initiatives. As an architectural element and as a museum structure, it has already received several national and international distinctions for its originality, functionality and relationship with the public.
The Municipality has a Collaboration Agreement with the Museum, which makes it a museum extension and enables citizens (integrated into groups organized by municipal services) to have an entrance fee exemption according to a fixed number of entries per school year.
Recognizing all this work - not only the fact that the Museum attracts quite varied audiences to the county’s rural area where it is located, but also the one that it helps to introduce the county in the various initiatives to which it is invited to participate - the City Council decided to proceed with the classification process.
This municipal initiative of public recognition also has an increasing importance in the context of “Palmela é Música”, Palmela's application process to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of Music. Music is a component of the Municipality's strategy for territorial development, a differentiating and affirming factor for the construction of a more inclusive and developed municipality.
